18 Months

...and then the Dude was a year and a half  *sigh*

Loves to be outside
Is becoming more outgoing in public
Has 12 teeth
Went to his first wedding
Is rocking the "shaggy hair, don't care" look
Was a solid 31 lbs. and 33.5 in. at his 18 mo. wellness visit
Is the happiest little guy

Here are our 17 and 18 month favorites...

1. Safety 1st Car Seat-  He is a forward facing dude now!!!  I know I've already shared my love for this car seat in an older post but now that it's turned around I love it 1,000,000 plus 1 times more! It is more reclined in its forward state and the Dude's head never falls forward when he's asleep!  When we turned him around both Ben and I said (almost simultaneously) "This is so cool!"  It's like a whole new world for him being able to see out all the windows and for us it's soo less stressful.  I don't have to worry if he's breathing or if the suns in his face or a bee's somehow stuck in his car seat with him or any of the other million anxieties that come with not being able to see him!  The whole experience is just fabulous!

2. Monkey security blanket-  He loves his little monkey.  He actually sleeps with this, a stuffed dog and a stuffed fox.  They have always just been in his crib and he never really payed them much attention but this past month or so when it's time for bed he is asking for them.  He has to have the monkey blanket under his head and his dog and fox lined up next to him.  So cute!

3.  Munchkin potty chair-  He is not potty trained yet but we got him this potty chair shortly after his 1st birthday to let him get acquainted with.  He knows what it's there for and he has used it a few times since we got it.  I am not going to force anything on him but am giving more and more little nudges.  For the most part he just sits on it with his clothes on and says "Pssssssssss".  That's definitely a start in my book:)

4.  Burt's Bee's Baby "underbees"-  I've found my organic jams!  This "underbees" collection was just what I was looking for.  Soft, organic, light weight cotton.  Perfect for summertime sleeping!  And I am in love with the simple neutral colors!  Pretty much obbsessed.

so fresh and so clean

Hope everyone had a great Father's Day weekend!  Wedding season is upon us and this weekend was Charlie's first one!   Check out my dapper dude!  We had such a fun time getting our party on, he LOVED being on the dance floor. Boom!  Only problem, he just stands there.  Boo!  If I worked really hard I could get him to clap or maybe swing his arms back and forth but for the most part he took the crouching tiger stance and observed.  My favorite part was having my first slow dance with him. He laid his head on my shoulder and I shed tear.  Then in the middle of the song Ben snuck over and started dancing with us...I sobbed like a baby.  I love my boys.

On Father's Day we cooked out and speaking of fresh and clean, Ben washed MY car ;)  I cant even begin to explain how lucky Charlie is to have Ben for a daddy.  Not only did he get all of Ben's good looks but there isn't a single thing in the world Ben wouldn't do for his boy.  He is an honest, hard working and loving man.  The perfect role model.  Charlie and I totally hit the jackpot!

Road Trip!

You haven't really lived life until you've taken an eight hour road trip with a rowdy toddler and a husband who thinks it's ok to let said toddler out of his car seat mid trip.  I drove so Ben was on baby duty, if the dude sneezed the wrong way Ben was all "I think he needs to get out of the car seat for awhile."  Wait, what? lol I won't say whether or not we let him out a few times but I will say that if we did let him out he would probably put up a fight when it came time to get back in.  P.S. The dude's strong.

We spent a few days in Milwaukee earlier this week.  Ben was doing business and Charlie and I were playing city slickers.  We spent our mornings at the pool and then after a long nap we were out on the town.  Charlie's favorite was our walk through Juneau Park.  It's right on the lake and since it was a really windy day there was a ton of people out with kites which he was totally in awe of.

A creepy encounter with a homeless man and one minor meltdown included, I really loved spending quality time, just us two, exploring the city.

The next best thing

I love receiving up dates of my babe while I'm at work!  I just received this video from my mom earlier this week and it got me thinking...

Most weeks from Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm I am away from my baby.  I am away because I choose to be but certainly not because I really want to.  I choose to get up, put my make up and heels on and go to work because it makes me feel good.  I don't bring home a paycheck anymore because I work solely in my husbands practice now. Some people may think that my decision is crazy, why would I work if I don't have to!?!  The answer is simple, when I feel good about myself and the work I do for Ben and our business, Ben feels good and the dude feels good!  I'm a firm believer in you have to be happy yourself before you can make other's around you happy.  And if heading in to the office every day and contributing to Ben's success makes me happy then so be it!  Not to mention, I've been with Northwestern Mutual for 10 years this summer!  Not only do I love this company but I absolutely love the people I work with!  PLUS and this is a big PLUS, when the three of us are home in the evenings and on weekends our time together is SO much sweeter!  Enough rambling, my point is that if I'm not going to be with my babe during the day I am beyond grateful to have my mom and mother-in-law there to fill my shoes.  They are the next best thing and I can't thank them enough.  Charlie loves them so much and it makes me very very happy :)
Thanks Mom's!
