More Milwaukee Fun

It's no secret, Milwaukee is the Dude's home away from home.  We spent last week there for Northwestern Mutual's Annual Meeting and we are headed back in September again which means by then Charlie will have been to Milwaukee 5 times in less than 2 years :)  This last road trip was the complete opposite from the one before (thanks goodness!).  We were way more prepared with books and other activities to keep him occupied this time around. You live and you learn, eh?

We took him to the Children's museum (which he absolutely loved), the Milwaukee zoo which our company keeps open after hours and throws a huge party for us, the playgrounds and out to dinner almost every night.  It was so much fun!

Nineteen Months

Month 19 was here and gone in the blink of an eye.  Now that he's 20 months I find myself saying "He's almost two" or "He'll be two in November" instead of  "He's one" or one and a half  when people ask how old he is.  Most people can't believe how old he is when I tell them.  Partly because he's a big dude and partly because he's very thoughtful and aware. 

 This past month he hit a pretty cool milestone which was a very proud moment for Ben and I.  He counted to 10!  It's weird because for a long time we couldn't for the life of us get him to say three.  Our conversations would go as follows:
Me: Say one, two, three
Charlie: one, two, one
M: Say cat
C: Cat
M: Say bear
C: Bear
M: Say purple
C: Purple
M: Say Sadie
C: Sadie
M: Say three
C: One!
 It was so bazaar, he just refused to say it or couldn't say it, who knows.  He would literally count everything 1,2,1,2,1,2.  Then all of a sudden one day he said 1,2,3 and then literally 2 days later said 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 while going up the stairs and ever since then he has been counting to ten with ease.  It still baffles my mind that it took months of hard work to count to three and then 2 days of no work to count to 10.  Anyhow, we were so excited for him!  In the past whenever he would hit a milestone I was quick to google the average time frame that it usually happens at but I told Ben I'm not going to do that any more.  Instead, I'm going to believe that we are growing a baby genius.

Other than that, month nineteen has been very fun and rewarding with this silly boy!

Summer Faves

Hope everyone is having a great summer!  Charlie has been a busy bee swimming, boating, beachin', playing with all his animals at his grandparents houses. He is totally feeling it, he loves being outside enjoying the weather.  If he's not asking for milk or Pooh he's standing at the front door begging "Outside?! Outside?! Outside?!"  Needless say he spends a lot of time...outside.

Here are a few of our summer time faves!

Sorry, not sorry the dude and I like to match whenever we can!  They don't sell either of the hats that Charlie and I have but I did add the link to a similar one for boys.  Same for the swim trunks, the toddler sizes are no longer available so the link is for older boys.
Also, Moroccan oil is like heaven for your hair.  I use it all year round but in the summer is when I notice the biggest difference in my hair.  It really helps with the humidity. Seriously, do you're hair a favor:)

Fourth of July

The 4th has always been my favorite summer weekend.  We spend it at the lake every year.  Three years ago we got engaged on the 4th, two years ago I spend it pregnant at Put-in- Bay watching all the drunks pee in the pool at the Blue Marlin swim up bar and last year we took the boat out to the middle of Lake Erie in the dark and watched Put-in-Bay's firework display.  Such fun times!  This year was bittersweet, Ben's grandma passed away and although we did head to the lake we laid low for the most part.
Charlie loved his grandma Mimi, he went with Ben's parents once a week to visit her at the nursing home.  He really enjoyed visiting her and I know it was a highlight of her week to see him.  At the funeral he said "I love you, Mimi" and blew her a big kiss.  She will be missed.

Other than that our fourth was filled with good food, bay breezes (my new favorite summer time cocktail), bubbles and boating...

Lastly, this week marks one year of blogging :) 52 blog posts and over 53,000 blog views.  Thank you for following along with this virtual scrapbook for Charlie!  I'm having so much fun with this and I really hope Charlie will enjoy reading it one day.

I had a major break through last week in regards to getting the Dude to eat his vegetables and I thought I'd share my golden nugget of information for any other Mamma's that might want to try it......Dip!!
His love/hate relationship with veggies is very much just that.  One day he loves them and the next day he acts like I dumped a turd on his plate.  That is until I discovered his love for dipping his food into, well, anything.  For the past two weeks as long as I put a dollop of "dip" on his plate he'll eat it up with a smile! What is "dip" you ask?  So far we have tried hummus, guacamole, light ranch, apple sauce, mashed cauliflower and yogurt.  All have been a huge success and I definitely recommend giving it a whirl with your little picky eaters:)

I am also always on the hunt for fun healthy snacks and I came across these frozen watermelon pops on pinterest.  I striped Charlie down and let him go to town.  Another success!
